If this is your first website it can be a bit overwhelming–All the technology terms, confusion, and wondering about the final product. Web work is unique in that you cannot hold it in your hands, but you can see results from it. Here’s my process on providing you a successful website.
Define & Plan
- Discuss and prioritize your specific goals
- Examine current website and/or marketing materials
- Research competition and website target audience, and identify necessities for a website in your field of business
- Establish SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy
- Define content structure and collect/prepare site content
- Create visual outlines to lay groundwork for designing the site
- Create functionality plan to define development cycle
- Set up Project Managerwebsite access so that you can easily check the status of the project anytime
Design
- Establish “Coming Soon” page which outlines your business or product and provides a basic means of contact
- Leverage your business identity by using already established marketing and preparing them for the web
- Build overall website layout based on previously approved mockups
- Create smaller design elements of website, such as logo if needed, icons, buttons, ads, etc.
- Add content and build menu structure aimed at easy navigation for website users
- Basic testing for design consistency across all major platforms and web browsers
Development
- Install content management system and other applications if needed
- Code backend functionality, if any
- Code all frontend functionality, such as e-commerce, web application interactivity, etc.
- Test each item one by one to ensure functionality is correct and complete
- Basic testing for functional usage across all major platforms and web browsers
Deploy & Test
- Deploy website onto client web server in a private environment
- Further test on a page-by-page and function-by-function basis
- Final testing for website across all major platforms and browsers
- Implement earlier decided SEO strategy, including search keyword generation and search engine submission
- Provide deliverables, such as graphics files, source code, screencast tutorials and other training materials
- Officially launch website
